Can’t speak. Won’t speak.

Probably perfectly reasonable given his schedule and certainly nothing can be read into it, but President Bush is the first President of the United States since Herbert Hoover not to attend an NAACP convention during his tenure. The constant embarrassmentleader of the free world begged off a speaking invitation during this election year citing scheduling conflicts, a confusion over the term “colored people,” and a desire not to have to actually talk to anyone who is not white, heterosexual and carrying at least US$2.5million available for donation.
Democratic presidential hopeful John Kerry will speak there on the last day of the convention. He is expected to discuss his hair, John Edwards’ hair, and his party’s plans to improve the hair of every American.
