Cracking the iPod case

RealNetworks said that they’ve managed all on their own to unlock Apple’s iPod in order to allow the player to support Real’s own audio format via their Harmony online music store.
Apple refuses to provide licenses for companies that want to put their files on iPods, so Real’s move is unlikely to come without a few legal ripples in the online music pond. But having done so, how long will it be before the little white box opens up to more (and better) format choices?
