When luck runs out

A man who shared part of an $87 million California lottery pay-off was shot to death by Seattle police on Sunday. The police department says he was shooting at them during a bar brawl before a Rams-Seahawks game, his relatives say he was shooting into the air to break up the fight.
Rick Camat was one of 13 (13! Aieee!) Starbucks (Starbucks! Oh my God!) employees who won the jackpot in 2000. He had previously treated members of his family to new cars and a house for his mother before purchasing a place for himself in Washington state.
Then he was shot to death by police. Is that irony or tragedy, I can never remember the difference?
