LAN speed record

The Caltech Netlab team won the latest Supercomputer Bandwidth Challenge by sending a sustained data transfer between Pittsburgh and Los Angeles at 101 gigabits per second.
For those keeping score, that’s like sending three full-length DVD movies per second, or enough bandwidth to transmit the entire Library of Congress in 15 minutes.
The team is aiming for a terabit-per-second rate within 5 to 10 years.
