Big blue Apple?

The latest rumor around corporate watering holes? IBM is selling its $10 billion PC business for $1-$2 billion to a Chinese company so it can buy Apple.
Apple’s computer’s already use IBM’s PowerPC chip, and IBM has been an also-ran in the personal computer space for some time, now. On the face of it, it seems really weird and dumb, until you consider that maybe IBM doesn’t want Apple for its hardware at all.
If you wanted to compete with Microsoft, what would you do?
