Big, fat cable

If 3 million bit-per-second broadband sounds good now, how does 1 billion bits per second sound?
CableLabs, the cable industry’s standards-settings unit, reported that they’re endorsing a new plan by cable companies to combine the bandwidth necessary to broadcast 4 separate channels into one super fat data conduit that could boost net speeds 400% to 1,600%. That would allow customers to download an entire HD movie in 5 minutes.
Cable modems utilizing DOCSIS 3.0, the new standard, should be available in 2008.
