Weather worries

Sen. Rick Santorum — you know, the Republican from Pennsylvania who probably hates you for something you’ve done that he doesn’t agree with, like breathing — has introduced a bill that would prevent the National Weather Service from providing weather reports via the Internet.
Why? Well, it seems that as a U.S. taxpayer (assuming you are one) you’re paying for the reports already, in a way, but the thing is that there are services who take the reports and gussy them up with ads and animated graphics and then turn them around and charge for them all over again, and the Weather Service isn’t playing fair since they just give away their own information.
Why should Santorum care? Well, for one thing he’s received campaign contributions from Barry Myers, president of for-pay weather provider AccuWeather. And for another, because he’s an evil jerk, but that goes without saying.
