Console envy

Microsoft tooted its own horn last week when it announced XBOX360 during a splashy MTV special. Today it was Sony’s turn, and they decided that rather than show the mind-numbed video crowd what was in store next year, they used an E3 demo on a 2,300 square foot HD screen.
In the 6 years since the 1ntro of PS2, what will PS3 bring your living room? Real-time animations on a par with Shrek2? Check. WiFi and Bluetooth built in? Check. Use the PSP as a remote controller with built-in widescreen to take your PS3 games with you? Check.
IP HD camera interface to broadcast HD-quality TV from anywhere to anywhere? Ayup. Interactive EyeToy camera that allows literally anything you can hold in your hand to act as a virtual tool onscreen? Uh huh. Capability to show games on HDTV at 16×9 or, assuming one has two HD screen, 32×9? Well, sure! Dolby 5.1? DTS? Linear PCM? Of course!
100 billion shader operations and 51 billion dot products per second. More than 300 million transistors, larger than any processor commercially available today. Controller shaped like a metal banana suitable for anal insertion. What more could you ask for?
