It was only a matter of time before we started seeing Web sites behaving more like TV networks, and starting next Tuesday the biggest entrant yet in that nacsent arena goes live.
Scripps Network, owner of Food Network, HGTV and Fine Living, among other cable channels, will launch an all-video Web site on May 31 featuring advertiser-supported broadcasts of original material as well as clips from its family of networks and shows. GMC is paying for broad ad support throughout the site, and you’ll likely be seeing ads from other big spenders like Coke, Honda and Visa.
The sites videos will be 2 to 4 minutes long and be updated every two weeks. You’re going to need a broadband connection to watch how to change a lightbulb in your remodeled kitchen while preparing eggs Benedict using only I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter, a carton of Egg Beaters and Oscar Meyer brand Almost Canadian Bacon, but I’m sure it will all be worth it.
