Up in smoke?

Today, an 8-month-long civil trial against the tobacco industry reaches conclusion as closing arguments are given from the Justice Department concerning their claim that the cancernakers are guilty of fraud and racketeering in a 50-year conspiracy to addict and mislead the American public about the risks of smoking.
After 45,000 pages of testimony, 240 witnesses and 15,000 exhibits, the case will be in the hands of U.S. District Judge Gladys Kessler. A federal appeals court already threw out a government demand that the industry forfeit $280 billion in allegedly ill-gotten gains, but they’ll still have to enter into a massive ‘quit smoking’ campaign that could cost as much as $130 billion over 25 years.
