Shift Change Memo: Everybody’s doing it
Is it a meme or a mouse? Open letters on major blogs with in-jokes and asides and snarky witticisms (I'm too lazy to spellcheck anything) and now we're doing backwards Blog masking in which the Bloggers who are doing the Blogging are being Blogged themselves.
So. I was chatting with a fellow Blogcaster last night over plates of barbecued flesh at our favorite meat hang discussing this, that and the state of running your own site (with a higher purpose than self-promotion, presumably, or so one tells oneself) and wondering what the hell you're doing it for, really. Is it fame...

It's not really news when yet another idiot talking on his or her cellphone while driving has an accident. But here's the thing: Now, you're almost hitting me, and that's where I draw the line.
Three times in as many days, I have been nearly hit on my bike by some fucking moron paying more attention to the conversation they're having about tonight's dinner instead of the guy on the bike minding his own business and not actually proceeding at breakneck speeds. I'm not a small target to miss, I'm actually pretty big -- though I realize that most drivers inside...
More → Interview: Jason Kottke
A few weeks ago, über-blogger Jason Kottke announced that he was turning his back on corporate America and will now suck his own audience dry like a giant Amazonian leech, begging readers to support his on-going quest to out-link every other blogger and eliminate the hyphen from web-log forever. We at glassdog applaud such hubris and insanity, and in this exclusive interview, Mr. Kottke does his best to explain himself without alienating the very audience he expects to pay him for being Jason Kottke.
Glassdog: Jason, what the fuck?

More → Do not move to Canada, redux
Last August, incensed as I was about oh, so many things Bush-related, I wrote an article admonishing readers not to run away from the problems, but to stay and change them, thinking (at the time) that we could "vote all the sons of bitches out."
But, as we all know now, that didn't happen. And so now, I am being asked whether I still believe that moving to Canada, or anywhere else, is a sound and viable alternative to living through our national nightmare for another four years--but that we owe it to ourselves and the country we love to stick...
More → Mo Meta, you’re fired
Once again we have a change in the cast here at glassdog. It's time to bid farewell to Mo Meta, who is moving on to lessor and unimportant things, and welcome aboard our newest correspondent.
Dick Septic comes to us with a belly full of opinions and his sights set on you. Please join me in welcoming Mr. Septic aboard the good ship glassydog!
gd.com: Now with more Dick!

As Harper's puts it, "So the wrong candidate has won, and you want to leave the country." Sure, it's tempting. It's tempting as hell. After all, if this election showed fair-minded progressives anything, it was that we're not only at odds with the current presidential administration, we're at odds with the majority of the U.S. population.
Albeit a slight majority, but a majority nonetheless.
Are we, then, to shift our beliefs and buy in to what seems to be the regressive policies oulined by the winning side? It's sort of ridiculous to think that as an American, I have to agree with...
More → Bitching
I would normally be able to hunt you down some sort of linky things to amuse you or bemuse you or confuse you but I am currently stuck in the double-funk of being extremely busy at work (for a change) and somewhat sick (unusually) so rather than provide you with some linkage, I'm going to bitch about the other authors I invited to help me out here who, with one or two exceptions, generally don't.
I do this for two reasons: One, I hate not being able to update and; Two, not having entries makes my delightfully eye-gouging interface go kaflooey,...

Hola, amigos y amigas!
The glassdog labs® have certainly been busy this weekend. They've managed to come up with three, count 'em, three all new dress-up outfits for the paperdoll that is glassdog.com.
In the past, a boisterous few have, well, complained is not an incorrect term... complained that the site design is a little distracting. Loud. Obnoxious. And so on. So to answer our critics and give the design team something to do, we're offering these alternate designs:
PlayTime! (shiny and new!)
Mossy (a woodsy scent)
Black and White (and read all over)
You can change the look any time you want to! And we'll...

Sorry about the quiet and suchlike. Long holiday weekend here in the States means not being online at all for three days, and eating way too much pork. Just... way too much.
On a lighter and much more pointless note, we'll commence with the witless attacks on everything you hold dear again as soon as anything interesting happens!
Just wanted to let you all know that we're here, some of us are queer, most not (just like in real life) and we're not sure if we'll ever get used to anything.

Sorry about the lack of updates today, no excuse, really. Can't speak for the rest of the gang, I'm sure they've all got their own worlds to conquer and so forth.
Well, okay, small excuse: I sat at home awaiting Macy's to come haul away my old, smelly, stained, icky mattress and replace it with a huge, comforting, better mattress. And the anticipation was so, you know, fraught with excitement and fear (as is everything in life, if you do it right) I couldn't roam the Web looking for new crap to tell you about.
Also, we took advantage of the new...
